As a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. David Holland brings advanced surgical precision, a calm chairside manner, and deep community ties to his work at South Florida Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Raised on the tennis courts of South Florida and educated at some of the nation’s most prestigious institutions, Dr. Holland is proud to serve patients across Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, West Palm Beach, and beyond with comprehensive oral surgical care.
His areas of expertise include dental implants, jaw surgery, bone grafting, wisdom tooth removal, and more.
Education & Training
Dr. Holland’s journey to oral surgery began with a nationally ranked tennis career, which earned him an athletic scholarship to Duke University. There, he was named to the ACC All-Academic Team and graduated with honors.
He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, graduating at the top of his class. During his time at Columbia, he received:
- The Herbert J. Bartlestone Award for academic and research excellence
- The Abraham and Martha Barnett Scholarship Award for outstanding academic achievement
Dr. Holland completed a rigorous four-year oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, affiliated with Georgetown University. As Chief Resident, he trained extensively in:
- Full-scope dentoalveolar surgery
- Orthognathic (jaw) surgery
- Complex facial trauma reconstruction
- Tumor resection and bone reconstruction
- TMJ disorders and temporomandibular surgery
- General anesthesia and IV sedation administration
His residency program also included a strong focus on dental implantology, particularly full-arch and dynamic guided surgery using state-of-the-art navigation systems.
Areas of Special Focus
Dr. Holland’s surgical interests include:
Corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery)
Bone grafting and sinus lifts
Full-mouth dental implant reconstruction, including All-on-4
Third molar (wisdom teeth) extractions
Oral pathology, biopsies, and cyst removal
As part of his ongoing research, Dr. Holland is co-authoring a study on dynamic image-guided surgery for third molar extractions and full-arch implant placement in collaboration with Dr. Robert Emery, the founder of X-Nav Technologies LLC. He has also conducted genetics-based research with Dr. Wendy K. Chung of Columbia University and has presented at national conferences, including the Greater New York Dental Meeting.
Personal Background & Community Involvement
A native of Palm Beach County, Dr. Holland is thrilled to return home to practice in the community that shaped him. He lives in the area with his wife, Camilla, originally from Brazil, and their mini–Australian Shepherd, Bowdee.
